Following extensive negotiations unionlearn secured provision for a learning centre at Pudding Mill Lane by the main site for the Olympics. CTU was launched by Tessa Jowell MP, Lord Young, Brendan Barber, and author Lola Jaye on the 21 January 2010.
Since opening CTU has already began to benefit both workers and the local community. Unions whose members have already taken advantage of the opportunities offered by CTU are FBU, GMB, Unison, Unite, and USDAW. Additionally, CTU has been awarded the prestigious Inspire Mark, which is awarded ‘only to the most accessible, participative, inspiring and stimulating projects’.
